The New River Mine (7 of 15)
The mine trackage is all in. I usually do ground
cover in sections and then study the results with photos. Here you can see the
results of black rit dye, coal dust and just a bit of ballast on the tracks into the mine
proper. Rit dye and diluted Grimy Black was used on the ties in the mine area to
give them that grey/black color. I will start to weather the "brown ties"
as they go out of the mine so that they get less black as they go up toward the main.
You may also notice that the lighter area is where the track was laid on cork
roadbed, even so, I have brought the play sand ground cover up to the top of the cork.
I want the impression to be that of an industry thats been in place a long time and
has had lots of trains arrive.
