The New River Mine (6 of 15)

The ties are all down and stained,  a first dusting of play sand beween the ties has been completed and a little weathering testing with coal near the back has been put in place.  As you all may know, if you place the New River Mine kit on your layout as it was designed, you can not get an engine under the mine.  I am a little cramped for space, so there will be occasions where the engine must pull part way under the mine to get to the crossover between the back two tracks.   I decided I would build forms and pour Hydrocal to get a really good looking concrete base and footings.  Well, they do look good, but that's after three evenings of sanding to get them all at the same height.  Next time I think basswood might be a better choice.
